Members of Congress made some choice comments on Twitter Wednesday night in response to President Barack Obama’s speech on the U.S. response to ISIS.

In a 9 p.m. EST speech that included promises such as “we will degrade and ultimately destroy ISIS,” Obama also asked for the support of Congress in his endeavor.

“Tonight, I call on Congress again to give us additional authorities and resources to train and equip these fighters, said Obama in his speech that was televised live. “…we cannot rely on an Assad regime that terrorizes its own people — a regime that will never regain the legitimacy it has lost.”

According to The Wire , Obama repeatedly asked for support from Congress.

Congress had an interesting–and varied reactions–on the Twittersphere. Republicans were especially critical of Obama’s speech and tweeted a wide range of comments immediately after the speech, according to MSNBC .

Here are some highlights:

Destroying this terrorist threat requires decisive action http://t.co/fgwYaQ4LOX

There were also comments on his overall foreign policy:

A President who has made ending the war on terrorism a central focus of his foreign policy must now make winning it a priority.

— Kevin McCarthy (@GOPLeader) September 11, 2014

And others tweeted that Obama failed to mention the attack on the Benghazi embassy:

Tomorrow is also a painful anniversary for the families of those lost on Sept. 11, 2001 and on Sept. 11, 2012.

— Rep. Steve Stockman (@SteveWorks4You) September 11, 2014

Congressman Stockman also noted that others are working against ISIS without using force:

Many great Christian charities are also assisting refugees victimized by ISIS terrorists.

Congressman Darrell Issa, who introduced a joint resolution on September 8 for a strategic plan on ISIS tweeted his support, though it was tongue-in-cheek:

If President Obama is finally ready to drop the wobbly rhetoric and lead a coalition, I am prepared to offer the support he needs. #ISIS

— Darrell Issa (@DarrellIssa) September 11, 2014

One other member of Congress tweeted his surprise that Obama changed tactics regarding ISIS, but gave tentative support:

Wow. My head spins. Does pres think we dont remember anything he had said before. So inconsistent. But I’m glad he sees the realities now
