ISIS, or the Islamic State Of Iraq and Syria, has been in the spotlight as the foremost terror group in the Middle East—a group that has eclipsed Al Qaeda in geographical, geopolitical, and finanical means. The biggest fear, and only accepted catalyst for another war, is an ISIS presence or attack on America. The Inquisitr reported that federal authorities estimated that there are up to 100 Americans who have gone to join ISIS.
The Inquisitr also recently reported that 40 of those American ISIS may have returned to the U.S.
“A total of 40 American ISIS fighters have already traveled back home to the United States, according to Representative Tim Bishop, a Democrat from New York. The lawmaker stated during a recent speech that up to 40 radicalized American citizens who left the country to fight for the Islamic State have returned, and could likely poses a deadly or terrorist threat to the nation.”
The Obama Administration has now confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the 40 have returned to the U.S. The NY Daily News reported on the announcement that seems to be forced by a Democratic Representative’s hand.
“Some of the deluded Americans who fought with the murderous Islamic State militant group in Syria and Iraq have now come home, a senior Obama administration official warned Monday. And an NYPD official said New York City could be their ultimate target.”
This admission comes on the heels of a report that ISIS is ramping up calls for a “lone wolf” style attack on U.S., France, and other “allies” of the West. CNN reports that an unnamed ISIS leader called for beheading(s) and other violent acts against the U.S. and western allies.
“Hinder those who want to harm your brothers. The best thing you can do is to strive to your best and kill any disbeliever, whether he be French, American or from any of their allies.”
There was a recording of the call on YouTube, but has since been taken down to “violation of terms”. An alleged English translation is available online. U.S. and French officials have remained steadfast and have said they will not be detoured by the threat from ISIS.
The UK Daily Mail reported that the FBI is monitoring the 40 American ISIS fighters that have returned to America. Other reports have suggested that the FBI and other intelligence services allegedly have no evidence that such an attack is in the works at this time.
