A search for the simple word “ clouds ” on Twitter on Sunday evening proved that plenty of people were tweeting and complaining that clouds were blocking their views of the super blood moon. As such, NASA’s live Ustream feed reported that at least 51,000 people were watching the eclipse online. Indeed, more folks were likely to see the lunar eclipse during Sunday Night Football, since the skies over Detroit were clearer than the skies over plenty of cities across the eastern seaboard of the U.S.
The NASA live stream itself also offered a different viewing option for folks who didn’t watch the super blood moon via websites like Time , or others that offered clearer, unobstructed views of the super blood moon that were free from clouds.
Local news sites like Fox 8 Cleveland gave updated weather reports to viewers who struggled to see the super blood moon through the scattered clouds that covered certain areas. The fact that clouds were scattered over some areas meant super blood moon viewers could at least get a peek at the much talked about lunar event when the bright moon was visible through breaks in the clouds.
With the live stream of the super blood moon scheduled to run via NASA’s site from approximately 8:00 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. EDT or so, a variety of options are available to stargazers who want to see the rare event. Other options to watch the super blood moon outside of the NASA feed coming in from the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, are noted on Heavy .
Some of those options, such as the Sky and Telescope live feed , appear to be overloaded with viewers.
Meanwhile, those folks who are able to witness the supermoon and are uploading photos of the blood moon to Twitter have quite an event that they are sharing with others.

Some Twitter users are using the eclipse — meaning the full moon passes through Earth’s darkest shadow called the umbra — to make jokes. One such joke turns the popular “Netflix and chill” phrase — a euphemism for hooking up — into a blood moon related quip.
“Super blood moon and chill?”
The super blood moon eclipse lasted approximately one hour and 11 minutes.
