Cowboys player Jerry Brown was killed on Saturday morning when a car he was traveling in was involved in collision with a tree. In honor of Brown, the Cincinnati Bengals have announced plans to hold a moment of silence before Sunday’s game against the Cowboys.
Brown was being driven around the city of Cincinnati by Cowboys teammate Josh Brent, who is now in jail, pending bond, after he was charged with intoxicated manslaughter.
After receiving notification of the player’s death, the Bengals immediately reached out to the Cowboys front office. The two teams will work together on an introduction for Jerry Brown before engaging in a moment of silence.
According to assistant head coach Jimmy Robinson:
“It’s hard to talk about right now … It’s one of the saddest things you can imagine. You feel so badly for the people and the families involved.”
Making matters worse, this is the second death of a player to hit the NFL in the last two weeks. Both deaths have occurred just 24 hours before a Sunday football match.
The Dallas Cowboys were already playing Jerry Brown in place of Jay Ratliff. The team will now likely hand the nose tackle position to Sean Lissemore or Marcus Spears.
The Cowboys (6-6) desperately need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, and they are facing the Bengals, who lead the league with 39 sacks.
With a murder-suicide last week and an alleged DUI related death this week, the NFL’s front office will have a lot of damage control to consider following the death of Jerry Brown.
