With production of the third film in the rebooted Star Trek franchise getting underway, it has been confirmed that the series’ two lead actors, Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, have officially signed on for a fourth entry.
According to the Hollywood Reporter , Pine and Quinto will reprise their respective roles as Captain James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock for a possible fourth movie in the franchise. As of right now, Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto are the only two cast members to be confirmed.
Prior to the third movie going into production, the cast of the Star Trek franchise ran into trouble with their contracts. Each actor had initially signed on to do three films in total, and Paramount Pictures was not looking to increase their income beyond what their contracts initially stated. But what the actors originally agreed to in 2007 had expired in 2014 under California law. During that timeframe, actors such as Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana have seen a jump in their careers.
Rather than disputing the deals in a court of law, Paramount contracted each actor to bigger raises and bonuses. Of all the cast members, Chris Pine saw the biggest increase in his paycheck. Pine was initially supposed to receive $3 million for the third film. Under the new contract, Pine will earn $6 million.
The Hollywood Reporter did not disclose exactly how much Zachary Quinto would make for the third film. However, it did mention that, under their new contracts, Quinto and Pine have agreed to a potential fourth film in the series.
The latest entry in the Star Trek franchise has had some setbacks. As previously reported by the Inquisitr , J.J. Abrams , who served as director for the first two films, will not be helming the third film, as he is busy with the new Star Wars . Roberto Orci , who wrote the screenplays for the first two films, stepped in to fill the spot, but then backed out. Fast & Furious director Justin Lin was then chosen to officially take over directorial duties.
In addition to Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto reprising their roles, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, John Cho, and Anton Yelchin will all return for the third film. At this time, there are no plot details, according to its IMDb page . But both Quinto and Saldana have shared some behind-the-scenes looks on their social media pages.
