Chris Brown appeared on Today Monday to talk to Matt Lauer about how hard his conviction for beating Rihanna has been on him, and the controversial R&B star again managed to annoy the internet by feeling so hard done by that people got mad at him for domestic violence.
If you were worried Chris Brown was being narcissistic still about the controversy, rest assured, he tells Lauer he’s been “humbled by the whole experience,” which probably hurts considerably less than the facial contusions and black eye sustained by Rihanna in the altercation.
Brown says that while beating a woman cost him a lot publicly, he is managing to make peace with himself about it. On Today , he said:
“From me losing everything, you know, to me having to regain public opinion or whatever it is — but most importantly, you know, knowing that what I did was totally wrong and having to kind of deal with myself and kind of forgive myself in the same breath and being able to apologize to, you know, Rihanna and be that man that can be who is a man, you know?”
Brown says that overall, the growth he’s experienced as a part of beating Rihanna up has been instrumental in making him the man he is today:
“I think it’s just me proving myself once again and also me just being a man, and knowing what I did wrong and never doing it again. As for as me and her concerned, she knows my heart and I know her heart.”
Chris adds: “I’m not really focused on the negative, everything about is positive for me. I did my 52 weeks of counseling and learned it was absolutely wrong.”
