Channing Tatum’s Magic Mike , the musical will move forward with Spiderman’s Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa writing the book.
Aguirre-Sacasa who pretty much saved Spider-man: Turn Off The Dark has been chosen to write the book for Tatum’s new musical, according to Deadline.
The lyrics for the songs for Magic Mike: The Musical , based on the Steve Soderbergh ( Ocean’s Eleven, Traffic ) film, will be written by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey.
Channing Tatum ( The Vow, Dear John ) played the title role in the 2012 film alongside Alex Pettyfer ( I Am Number Four, In Time) , Matt Bomer ( White Collar ), Joe Manganiello ( True Blood ), and Matthew McConaughey (The Lincoln Lawyer, A Time To Kill).
The WME show is produced by Tatum and Soderbergh, plus Reid Carolin, Gregory Jacobs, and Nick Wechsler.
Magic Mike is the story of Mike, a male stripper, played by Channing Tatum in the film, who introduces young Adam to the world of male dancing, picking up women, and easy money.
Channing Tatum had a stint as a male stripper when he was younger to pay the bills and many of the moves he is seen doing in the film were based on his own experience.
The film was a hit with moviegoers, especially women, and got decent reviews from critics, the fact that Tatum has belonged to the profession at some point, made him more credible and he showed some never before seen moves.
Kitt and Yorker are the creators of the award-winning play Next to Normal, as well as the upcoming show If/Then.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa also has written the book for Duncan Sheik’s “American Psycho” musical, which debuts in London later this year and is a co-producer for Glee and Big Love .
In the meantime Magic Mike producers continue to develop a sequel to the hit movie, which grossed $167 million worldwide on a very modest budget.
