Were you looking forward to seeing Channing Tatum strut in a tux for next year’s Oscars? Well it looks like fans of “the Chan” will have to wait a whole year, as it’s being reported that Tatum’s Oscar vehicle Foxcatcher is being pushed back to 2014 .
It was seen as one of the most anticipated releases to come this year, but the true crime film based on wrestler Mark Schultz is being pushed out of this year’s Oscar race.
Sony Pictures announced that director Bennett Miller’s tale will be pushed back until 2014. This comes after the teaser for Foxcatcher was released and then subsequently pulled off of the internet in a matter of minutes. The delay of Foxcatcher is just another aggravating move in a series of delayed films. Recently it was announced that Martin Scorcese’s The Wolf Of Wall Street might also be delayed. By count that makes two really big contenders out of the race.
Foxcatcher sees Mark Ruffalo and Channing Tatum playing world wresting champions David, and his younger brother Mark Schultz, the latter played by Tatum. The two defy the odds, with Mark wanting out of his brother’s shadow, he eventually becomes the two-time world champion in freestyle wrestling. The brothers are the only two siblings to win both Olympic and World Championship titles. Of course tragedy strikes as they prepare for another Olympic run under the name “Team Foxcatcher.”
In addition to Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo, a prosthetic heavy Steve Carell also stars in the film.
Early reception for the released teaser of Foxcatcher seemed to be extremely enthusiastic. Collider wrote :
“This trailer is absolutely fantastic. I was a bit unsure about Carell stepping into such an intense dramatic role, but judging by this trailer he looks to knock it out of the park. Miller once again shows incredible talent behind the camera.”
Before its 2014 delay, Foxcatcher was originally slated for December 20.
