Castle fans were shocked when it was announced that Penny Johnson Jerald was leaving the series. Many were so worried that Stana Katic would exit the series after Season 7 wrapped that none of the fans saw the exit of Captain Victoria Gates coming.
A previous Inquisitr report teased that the exit of Captain Gates could open a door for Beckett. She just recently passed the Captain’s Exam, and she can easily slide into the position left open by Gates’ exit.
However, the exit of Johnson had fans worried that others may leave the series before or soon after Castle Season 8 premieres. A fan asked Matt Webb Mitovich from TV Line about the possibility of other actors leaving the series, and he was quick to stop the worry.
“I can confirm that Jon Huertas and Seamus Dever, as well as Tamala Jones, Susan Sullivan and Molly Quinn, all are on board for Season 8 (along with, you know, Nathan and Stana). Penny Johnson Jerald is the only departure.”
Production on Season 8 will not start until next month, but fans have tried to find out more about the upcoming season. With new people in charge of the drama, the series will take on a new direction.
Fans will see more of Castle and Beckett’s relationship during Season 8. Could a pregnancy happen? That is what some are speculating, and it is a logical next step for the pair. It would certainly complicate things for Beckett if she is promoted to Captain.
Alexi Hawley did offer a small teaser for the upcoming season to Entertainment Weekly .
“We just want to get in there and try to tell some really dynamic stories. Going into season 8, it feels like it’s time to shake things up a little bit.”
A pregnancy would definitely shake things up a bit.
Castle fans were definitely worried about the future of the series before Stana Katic signed her new contract, but this series seems to be ready for new territory. The series has two new people in charge to take it there.
Castle has become a staple of ABC’s regular Monday night programming. Could Season 8 be the final season though? It is too soon to tell. It all depends on the direction the writers take Castle and Beckett in once the series returns.
