Since Casey Affleck garnered attention from the Academy for his performance in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford , he’s taken a quiet approach on how he picks his roles. After taking on Gone Baby Gone , with the exception of the controversy he earned for directing Joaquin Phoenix in his self-mockumentary I’m Still Here , Affleck has all but ducked out of the industry.
Over the last year Affleck has reemerged, while reminding people just why he had the Academy’s attention in the first place. A rather subdued performer, Casey Affleck has snatched up promising projects within the last year. He’s earning quite a lot of buzz for his role opposite Rooney Mara in Ain’t Them Bodies Saints .
Next up Affleck joins the promising and highly anticipated film Interstellar . Interstellar is directed by Christopher Nolan, who has taken on the massive trilogy The Dark Knight , and has enjoyed mainstream success aside for his sci fi film Inception .
Affleck inadvertently revealed that he was joining the cast of Interstellar during an interview with Elle magazine . While promoting Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, Affleck talked about what he was gearing up for next, telling the magazine, “I’ve got a movie coming out at Thanksgiving called Out of the Furnace, and I’m going to work on a Chris Nolan movie in the fall.”
That movie is obviously Interstellar , as it’s the only project that Christopher Nolan is working on. For the film, Affleck joins a well-thought out ensemble that sees Matthew McConaughey in the lead, and Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and Michael Caine as supporting.
According to a site based on Interstellar , Nolan and producer Emma Thomas are bringing a story that is based on scientific theories, many of theoretical physicist, Kip Thorne. Other than that not much has leaked about the film itself.
Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. are currently co-financers on the film.
Casey Affleck can be seen in theaters on August 16 in Ain’t Them Bodies Saints .
