St. Louis Cardinals right fielder Carlos Beltran played in the MLB for 16 years without a World Series appearance. On Wednesday, he exited that series in Game 1 against the Boston Red Sox.

Beltran suffered a right rib contusion in the bottom of the second inning. The outfielder was running for a ball when he slammed into the right-field wall. He made a spectacular catch to rob David Ortiz of a grand slam, but ultimately, he was injured on the grab.

Carlos Beltran managed to finish the frame, but was spotted rubbing his right side. Between innings, Beltran disappeared into the clubhouse, where he was looked over by a team trainer.

Beltran grabbed Ortiz’s drive before it could settle into the outfield bullpen. The crowd watched with bated breath as the ball soared through the air. After making the catch, he smacked into the short wall.

Following his trip to the clubhouse, the team’s medical staff decided to transport him to the hospital for X-rays.

Taking over in center field was Jon Jay, who started the third for the St. Louis Cardinals. Moving from center to right field was Shane Robinson.

In the regular season, Carlos Beltran batted.296 with 24 homers and 84 RBIs. His experience as an eight-time All-Star makes him a valuable part of the teams World Series roster.

In 45 career postseason games, Beltran has hit.337 with 16 homers and 37 RBIs. His playoff totals include 44 runs, 11 stolen bases, and a.724 slugging percentage.

In the National League playoffs this year, Carlos Beltran hit 12 RBIs.

More information to follow after team officials have time to examine the All-Star’s x-rays and his level of pain.

Do you think the St. Louis Cardinals can win a World Series title without Carlson Beltran in the lineup?
