‘Captain America: Civil War’ Will Include The Hulk, According To Anthony Mackie

Captain America: Civil War is packed to the brim with characters from the Marvel universe. In fact, pretty much anyone who has ever appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to make an appearance in the hugely anticipated blockbuster.

One character, though, who wasn’t thought to be involved is The Hulk. Since making his debut as The Hulk/Bruce Banner in 2012’s The Avengers , Mark Ruffalo has become a firm fan favorite, and his character even went on to appear in the sequel to the superhero ensemble, 2015’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron .

Even though, because of the huge size of its own ensemble, Captain America: Civil War has been described in some quarters as Avengers 2.5 , Mark Ruffalo was widely assumed to have missed out on a part in the blockbuster.

But, a slip from Anthony Mackie has suggested that actually might not be the case. Mackie, who will appear as the Falcon in Captain America: Civil War , was speaking to Radio 1’s Movies With Ali Plumb, via Comic Book Movie , when he appeared to reveal that Mark Ruffalo was in Civil War . Something that, if it’s true, is a huge surprise.

Anthony Mackie, who throughout his career with Marvel, has proven to be a hugely energetic and charismatic promoter of the studio’s films, was busy waxing lyrical about the hugely anticipated summer release when he made this impromptu announcement. Or, maybe it was just a mistake.

When asked about Captain America: Civil War , Anthony Mackie made sure to toe the company line by insisting that it’s the best Marvel film to date. “Having seen the movie,” Mackie explained, “it’s Marvel’s best movie so far. And I’m being honest — if a Marvel movie sucks, a movie in the Marvel universe, I’ll tell you it sucked.”

Mackie continued, “ Winter Soldier and (the first) Iron Man are probably Marvel’s two best movies, and I feel like ( Civil War ) beats both of those movies. It’s really, really good. It’s because it’s more of an acting movie that an action movie.”

It was at this point that Anthony Mackie appeared to reveal that Mark Ruffalo would indeed be featuring in the blockbuster, as he declared, “I feel like the story is very concise and interesting, and you get to see Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo and everybody just do really, really good acting.”

Obviously, because of these remarks, the internet soon exploded with stories that Anthony Mackie had inadvertently announced Ruffalo is in Captain America: Civil War. That’s clearly one way to read this story.

And it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if The Hulk was actually part of Captain America: Civil War. It would also make sense if Marvel were keeping his inclusion a secret, too, as that would help to increase word of mouth chatter following the film’s release.

However, what’s more likely is that Anthony Mackie accidentally bunched Mark Ruffalo’s name in with the likes of Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans.

Anthony Mackie didn’t stop there though. Because, during the same interview, the actor also made the bold prediction that Captain America: Civil War is actually so impressive that it will actually become the first ever superhero hero to gain an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.

Continuing his early review for Captain America: Civil War , Anthony Mackie explained, “And then there’s action in it. I think it might be the first superhero movie that might be up for Best Picture.”

We’ll see if that’s the case when Captain America: Civil War is finally released into cinemas on May 6, 2016.
