People generally avoid bringing up political conversations at dinner tables as they know it could create tension. Friendships can fall apart, and relationships can turn sour when people start opening up about which political party they support and why. And this is exactly what happened with an American mom whose grown-up child won’t talk to her anymore because she chose to vote for Donald Trump in the 2024 elections.
Donald Trump’s second term as the President of the United States appears to be more controversial than his first term. While his radical policies are welcomed with open hearts by his supporters, liberals have been actively raising their voices against him. Trump’s style of leadership and his decisions as the POTUS are highly debatable within the country and across the borders. But tragically, the polarized views about him have also caused a few families to fall apart.
Recently, a woman took to X and described how her son had abandoned her since the presidential elections. A woman named Shannon Hill wrote, “Today my oldest son turns 36. I sent him a gift, left him a voicemail and texted him. But I won’t be hearing back from him – not even an acknowledgment that he received his present. Why? Because he hasn’t spoken to my husband or I in seven months because we voted for Trump.”
“I miss him and hope that someday he will come around and realize the damage he is doing to our family by acting this way. My breaking heart is a continual reminder. I know many of you have similar stories and I pray that your family members come around as well. I’m not asking him to change his politics, but you can’t let it come between family,” she further added.

As Shannon’s tweet went viral, an X user tweeted, “I’m sorry. Politics should stop at the family front door,” to which she replied, “It should, Gary. And we don’t even discuss it with him because we know he is liberal. Well, we don’t discuss anything now because he won’t answer the phone.”

While sympathizing with the woman, someone added, “You might hate me for saying this, but I don’t know how he could do it to you. If he’s 36, he’s old enough to know better, and if he doesn’t reconcile with you and anything happens to you, he’s going to have to live with it. I’m so sorry. I’m going to pray you hear from him soon.”
Shannon is a breast cancer survivor and hopes to reconnect with her son soon.
