A New Jersey waitress is making headlines for her recent heartwarming act of kindness. According to Opposing Views , Notre Dame High School senior Daniela Bossi decided to do something nice for a couple that recently visited the restaurant where she works. Rick Lewallen and his wife, Annette, stopped by the Brother’s Pizza in Hamilton, NJ, on the evening of Thursday, August 27.
The couple hasn’t had the opportunity to spend many leisurely nights out over the past couple months because Rick’s battle with brain cancer has been debilitating both medically and financially, as the couple has incurred a substantial amount of medical expenses. So, a night out for pizza and a salad sounded like a great idea, but their night got even better when they received quite a surprise when it was time to pay for their meal.
According to NJ , the 17-year-old waitress paid their bill with tip money she’d earned. However, that’s not all. She also left a heartfelt note on the receipt explaining why she’d done so.
“For putting up the biggest fight, this one is on me,” Bossi wrote. “With great love, Brother’s Pizza.”
Needless to say, the couple was left speechless by the kind gesture. “It was a vote for humanity,” Rick said. “I’ve finally stopped crying about it.”

It has been reported that Bossi is actually a long-time family friend of the couple because she attended school with two of their children, which is how she knew Rick was sick. During a recent interview with NJ she briefly further expounded upon why she’d paid their bill. “I did it because their family has always been there for my little sister. It was something so small. I didn’t think it was any big deal,” she said.
But, the couple refused to let the good deed go unnoticed regardless of how important Bossi thought it was. Annette reportedly took to Facebook to express her gratitude and it definitely didn’t take long lots of other Facebook users to applaud Bossi for the act of kindness.
“Daniela Bossi, the world is a better place because of people like you! Tonight Rick and I ate dinner out. We were happy to have one of Ashley and Ryan’s friends as our waitress. Her service was excellent! When Rick asked for the bill this [the note] is what he got. We are overwhelmed with her kindness! God bless you forever Daniela!”
However, the couple weren’t the only ones to praise Bossi for the act of kindness. She also revealed her bosses also commended her for her actions and reimbursed her for the cost of the couple’s meal. “They told me they were behind me 100 percent,” she said.
“It’s not often you hear about someone so young doing something with so much heart,” said Pasquale Carannante, one of the pizzeria’s owners. “I’m very proud.” Although Bossi doesn’t see the gesture as a big deal, she’s touched the hearts of many around the country.
