Calista Flockhart has flown to England to be with her injured husband Harrison Ford, whose crushed ankle may put a crimp on filing of the new Star Wars movie.
Ford was on the set of the upcoming sequel when he reportedly had his foot crushed in the door of the Millennium Falcon.
A source told The Hollywood Reporter that Ford’s ankle was injurd when one of the hydraulic doors fell, prompting crew members to call paramedics.
Afterward, Disney released the following statement:
“Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today. He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care.”
Ford is reprising his role as Han Solo, the smuggler who played a larger role in the original Star Wars trilogy.
After doctors determined that the injury was worse than originally believed, Calista Flockhart reportedly traveled to be with her husband as he recovers in a hospital. Ford’s son, Ben, said his father may need a plate and screws inserted into his ankle.
There is now speculation that Ford’s injury could delay the Star Wars production. Ford’s son reported that filming may now have to shift around his father’s recovery schedule.
“The initial day or two after the accident it was hard to move things around but now we have had more time we can juggle things, bring some scenes forward and push others back,” a production source told London’s Mirror.
“There are lots of other actors in the movie so it is not a disaster. We are still confident the film can stay on schedule.”
Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart met at the Golden Globe awards in 2002 and began dating. They got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2009, and were married June 15, 2010, in New Mexico. The ceremony was presided over by Governor Bill Richardson.
Calista Flockhart may want to settle in for a while in the UK. Reports have said that Ford’s recovery could last as long as six weeks.
