Chick-fil-A has been in the news over the past month or so. Here on The Inquisitr , we have reported on the Christian company numerous times in the past. This includes their stance on the Biblical definition of marriage , which led to “Chick-fil-A Day.” Despite the saddening news of the founder’s passing , the restaurant has become the number one fast food chicken restaurant, surpassing KFC . They also became number one in children’s appeal , surpassing McDonald’s. So overall, Chick-fil-A is doing a-okay.
Even with their success, there are still plenty of people who stand against Chick-fil-A. Now there are reports that a high school in Ventura, California, has banned the restaurant from participating in their fundraiser. However, they are more than delighted to take any money Chick-fil-A donates to them.
According to an article by The Huffington Post , Ventura High School nixed a student-run booster club’s plan to sell Chick-fil-A sandwiches during a back-to-school night because of the restaurant’s controversial stance on same-sex marriage. Val Wyatt, the principal of the high school, stated that she wanted to keep outside organizations from selling or advertising during the September 10 event. She also referenced Chick-fil-A’s media firestorm over the biblical definition of the family unit back in 2012.
“With their political stance on gay rights and because the students of Ventura High School and their parents would be at the event, I didn’t want them on campus.”
Val Wyatt’s decision has divided parents and students, especially the booster club that expected to raise $1,600 for the school’s football team by selling 200 meals donated by Chick-fil-A. One parent gave her thoughts on the decision in the following statement.
“Everybody is embraced and Chick-fil-A should have been allowed there.”
Todd Starnes with Fox News was among the many who decried Val Wyatt’s decision. He simply stated the following, beginning with a very understanding question.
“What pray tell, could people find offensive about a plump, juicy chicken breast tucked between two buttered buns? This is a classic example of those preaching inclusivity and diversity being the least inclusive and diverse of all.”
CBS Los Angeles , however, found a tidbit which sounds hypocritical for Ventura High School. They don’t want Chick-fil-A to be present on campus, but they are not banning them from donating money to them. As a matter of fact, their local Chick-fil-A has already donated $21,000 to Ventura schools.
