Action legend Bruce Willis donated a whole ski resort in Idaho to a non-profit group, proving that the movie star can also be a real life hero.
Bruce Willis donates the ski resort this week, but we first reported on the kind gesture a month ago. At the time, Bruce discussed how he held the organization on the receiving end of the generous donation in high esteem, and said that community efforts inspired him to gift the Soldier Mountain Ski Area to them to ensure its future.
Willis said:
“I couldn’t be more pleased with the organization that will be responsible for the management of the Soldier Mountain Ski Area … The community came together, established the SMSA organization, and now assures its continued success. It was exciting to see that the very people who ski at Soldier care so much about its future. I wish them the very best.”
The group to which Willis donated the ski resort was in part organized by Boise attorney Will Varin, and Varin tells reporters he was stunned at how quickly the plan came together.
The lawyer explains that the initiative only began in the spring, and says that having been a skiier at the resort since childhood, he’d hoped to see it preserved for the future:
“It went from idea to execution in a matter of weeks … It’s an honor and a privilege to do it … At the end of the day, we don’t own the mountain. It’s a community mountain.”
The ski resort Bruce Willis donated will open later this season.
