In a Brooklyn double-stabbing, a 6-year-old boy has been killed and a 7-year-old girl critically injured in a building while they were going inside to get some snacks.
The stabbing took place just before 6 p.m. on Sunday at 845 Schenck Avenue in Brooklyn. The young boy was found dead inside an elevator in the building while the girl was found collapsed outside.
Both of the children were rushed to Brookdale University Hospital, but the boy, Prince Joshua Avitto, was pronounced dead. The girl, Michaela Capers, is still in the hospital and is fighting for her life.
Sophia Diaz, a neighbor, told reporters that the two kids were heading inside the building to get a snack.
“They were just going inside to get ices, that’s it, they weren’t bothering anybody,” she said.
The man suspected in the Brooklyn stabbing is still at large, but police are looking for a large-framed black male in his 20’s who was said to have been wearing a grey sweatshirt.
The complex where the stabbing took place was cordoned off with tape and all entrances and exits were manned by police. Chief of Brooklyn Detectives, Patrick Conry, said :
“He was last seen running eastbound through the development. We did recover a knife in the vicinity of 857 Schenck Avenue.”
Another shocked neighbor, Inez Rodriguez, also spoke to reporters about the Brooklyn stabbing , saying: “These are babies,” and asking the obvious, painful question, “Why would anyone want to harm children?”
The double-stabbing on Sunday comes just days after another stabbing, also in Brooklyn, when 18-year-old Tanaya Grant Copeland was stabbed and left to die at the corner of Linwood Street and Stanley Avenue.
Despite the fact that a $2,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of Copeland’s killer, he has still not been found. It remains to be seen whether or not the police will find the suspect in the latest stabbing incident to take place in Brooklyn.
