Britney Spears may have just let slip that she’s in the running to perform the 2017 Super Bowl halftime show.
Spears was quizzed about potentially performing at what’s often referred to as one of the biggest shows in the world during an interview on BBC Radio 1’s Scott Mills radio show on August 24, where Britney let slip that she would “probably” perform at the Super Bowl.
During Spears’ new interview with the British radio station, the BBC host mentioned that Britney is one of the frontrunners to perform the halftime show at the prestigious football event in 2017, before asking the star if she would consider taking on the huge performance slot next year.
“Yes. I would probably do that,” Spears then replied, but admitted that she wouldn’t like to take on the Super Bowl performance alone and would instead call in reinforcements from other artists.
“I would have to have a little support group, another artist of course,” Britney admitted about a potential Super Bowl halftime performance. “I don’t think you would ever do the Super Bowl alone. That would be kind of scary.”
Notably, Spears has taken to the Super Bowl stage in the past, making an appearance during Aerosmith’s halftime show back in 2001.
Britney appeared on the prestigious football stage fifteen years ago alongside the legendary rock band and special guests ‘N Sync, Mary J. Blige and Nelly for a performance of “Walk This Way” that closed out the big musical event.
The NFL are yet to confirm or deny reports that Spears is in the running to perform the Super Bowl 51 halftime show, though the organization did admit that they have not yet made an official offer to anyone but have “had conversations” with a number of artists.
The football company made the big announcement, but did not mention Spears, in a statement after Adele claimed that she had already turned down an offer to perform the halftime gig in 2017.
“We have had conversations with several artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show,” the NFL said of the Super Bowl 51 performance in a statement issued to Billboard . “However, we have not at this point extended a formal offer to Adele or anyone else. We are focused on putting together a fantastic show for Houston and we look forward to revealing that in good time.”
Britney Spears’ name has long been associated with the seriously prestigious Super Bowl show ever since she first made an appearance on the field stage back in 2001, and it looks like Spears’s fans would be more than happy to see the pop superstar headline the big show.
Spears fans have taken to social media to speculate about the possibility of Britney being the 2017 Super Bowl halftime performer long before Britney made her coy confessions in the BBC Radio 1 interview, with many claiming the star will more than likely be the big performer at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, next February.
“2017 marks Britney’s 20 years in the industry since she signed with Jive Records (now RCA) in 1997. The SUPERBOWL PERFORMANCE will happen!” @BritneyTouch tweeted out of Spears.
“Britney doing the Superbowl doesn’t sound unrealistic anymore. I mean she’s doing the VMA’s & we never in a million years thought she would,” Britney fan @britneyspeans added.
Notably, a Super Bowl halftime performance would also fit well with Spears’ big musical comeback.
Britney is set to drop her ninth studio album, Glory , on August 26 and also stunned fans with a performance of her biggest hits at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards earlier this year.
Spears also appears ready to be back in the public spotlight following a string of exclusive performances as part of her “Piece of Me” Las Vegas residency shows, as MTV recently announced that Britney will be taking to the MTV Video Music Awards stage for a performance of her new single “Make Me” later this month.
