Britney Spears has been accused of lip-syncing for a long time. Rumors of the situation follow her back to the days of I’m A Slave 4 U (2001). Up until now, Britney Spears and her team have always denied the accusations.
Adam Leber, a member of Britney’s managing team, has come forward in order to admit that the former Disney star has actually been lip-syncing her way through her Las Vegas contract.
According to Medium.com, Leber said, “To put on the show that she puts on, it’s virtually impossible to sing the entire time and do what she does. She’s singing on every song, basically, when she has the ability to sing. There’s no way you can dance for 90 minutes straight and sing the entire time.”
The admission was long overdue after a video surfaced in February showing Spears not singing during one of her songs.
Many singers lip-sync through parts of their shows and most of them sing live with a backing track. However, this admission is following promises made last year that she intended to sing live at her Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino shows.
“She’s going to be singing live. She does choreography and vocal coaching every day. The vocal coaching is really just to strengthen her voice and get her to a point where she can go out there every night and do a full show,” Larry Rudolph, Britney Spears’ manager, told Billboard last year . “The idea is to try to get her pretty close to 100%. There might be some numbers where she’s full out dancing with a (vocal) track underneath her, but there won’t be any lip-syncing across the board on anything.”
Britney Spears followed up that promise with one of her own.
Spears told KISS-FM , “I’m definitely going to be singing live. I always sing live. It doesn’t sound so great all the time, but I do my best.”
Fans of Britney Spears might be annoyed at the information, but her ticket sales are still soaring. Spears just signed a new contract with Planet Hollywood that will keep her dancing and moving her lips on stage until February 2015.
Britney Spears’ Pieces of Me show is meant to be a retrospective look at her career. Britney’s just over 30-years-old, but she’s been singing since she was around 17, longer if you count her time in the Mickey Mouse Club ; she has plenty of career, in her past, to look back on.
