Brent Musburger says he did nothing wrong when he famously extolled the beauty of Miss Alabama, Katherine Webb, during the television play-by-play of the BCS Championship Game. Webb is Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron’s girlfriend.
TMZ caught up with the sportscaster at the Palm Beach, Florida airport on Tuesday, and, when asked if he thought his on-air compliments about Webb were inappropriate, Musburger simply said “no.”
When TMZ asked him about ESPN ‘s official apology to Katherine Webb , Musburger responded diplomatically:
“Individuals say what individuals say. And corporations do what corporations do. Obviously, they felt it was the right thing for them to do.”
Musburger said he wishes Katherine Webb the best but has not reached out to her since the controversy about his BCS comments made headlines on the internet. He does look forward to speaking with her “someday,” however, and he indicated that he is sure they will run into each other along the way. Musburger also made it clear that he is claiming no credit for launching Katherine Webb’s career, which he maintains was already launched.
Separately, on Monday night Musburger, 73, raised eyebrows when he declared that sideline reporter Holly Rowe was “really smokin’ tonight.”
