If you’re old enough to remember the Heathers drama starring Shannen Doherty, Christian Slater, and Winona Ryder when she was in her prime, then you may be horrified to learn that Bravo is currently developing a reboot in the form of a television show. Heathers , along with four other dramatic series will be a face lift that Bravo desperately needs to sustain viewership.
As of late Bravo has turned into a network that bases most of their number crunching on the successful “Real Housewives” shows, and of course Andy Cohen’s follow up talk show “Watch What Happens”, but as far as original programming Bravo has been lacking. Bravo is said to be bringing out the big guns with the cult hit classic Heathers .
For Heathers it’s said that the show will pick up twenty years later with Veronica (Winona Ryder’s character) on her way home to Sherwood with her now teenage daughter, who of course must deal with this generation’s new mean girls: the Ashleys, who are the daughters of the Heathers from Veronica’s generation.
Bicks, whose own show “The Big C” will end after a successful four seasons is said to produce the series along with Mark Rizzo and Lakeshore Entertainment. If this programming change seems drastic for Bravo, VP of scripted development and production of Bravo, Andrew Wang has something to say about that:
“Through our growing slate of scripted development, we plan to build upon the success of our award-winning unscripted programming, accessing and exploring new worlds and characters while still engaging the same affluent and pop culture savvy audience that watches the Real Housewives and Top Chef. We’re excited to partner with such high-caliber talent in developing TV that pushes boundaries conceptually and thematically while still telling a fun story in the way that our audiences have come to expect from us.”
The attempt to reboot the Heathers comes a month after Bravo has announced that they will also try to redevelop The Joneses , which is a remake of the Demi Moore and David Duchovny feature. So far there’s no word on the cast for “Heathers” but here’s hoping they can find people as fierce as its original cast.
