Brad Pitt has a bona fide hit movie on his hands, but perhaps not in the way that Pitt expected viewers to see his new war drama, Fury .

According to the Inquisitr , the hacked Sony movie Fury – which stars Brad Pitt as well as Shia LeBeouf – has been download by more than 888,000 unique IP addresses as of November 30. By December 1, CBS News reports that more than one million people have downloaded the Pitt film illegally from various piracy sites. Pitt’s film is currently still playing in theaters and garnering a mixed bag of reviews.

In Fury , Pitt stars as an Army sergeant named Don “Wardaddy” Collier, with battle-weary leading man Brad leading a five-man crew in the movie on a fatal mission behind enemy lines. It’s a film that has brought Brad Pitt and his co-stars Oscar buzz, according to the New York Times .

The website TorrentFreak breaks down the Brad Pitt vehicle’s ranking in terms of DVDscr downloads, a type of pirated movie term. They place the Pitt drama at the fifth spot on their updated list of movies as of December 1.

Bloomberg reports that the illegal hacking of the Brad Pitt World War II drama will eat into holiday movie sales, with major leaks like this one costing the worldwide economy approximately $575 billion per year. It’s an incident that proves internet thieves are doing more than attempting to create major breaches of credit and debit card data, but are also targeting huge box-office releases like the much ballyhooed Brad Pitt film that’s received a lot of buzz.

“If you think it can’t get worse, it can, and it will,” Brad Pitt’s character states in the Fury official movie trailer, sporting a war-heavy look that’s miles away from the famous scene in Thelma & Louise whereby Brad first burst into hearts and homes as a thief with six-pack abs of steel.

Unlike Pitt’s Fury , another Sony Pictures movie that was leaked is yet to be released in theaters. That film is Annie , which stars Cameron Diaz, and is not due to be released until December 19, reports the BBC .

“The theft of Sony Pictures Entertainment content is a criminal matter, and we are working closely with law enforcement to address it.”

Although a Sony spokeswoman gave that comment to Variety – a publication that has updated the Brad Pitt movie hacking to 1.2 million downloads – there’s been no official statement attributed to Brad Pitt about the hacking as of this writing.
