Boyband member James McElvar collapsed this week and had to be hospitalized after he tried to wear more than 10 layers of clothing on an airplane to avoid paying the $60 baggage fee.

McElvar was on an easyJet flight from Stansted, Essex, to Glasgow with the rest of his Rewind bandmates when he decided to take a page out of Joey Tribiani from Friends and wear all the clothing he had. But instead of saving money, the stunt ended up causing the boyband member to overheat and collapse, the Huffington Post UK noted.

McElvar later explained that he wasn’t trying to be funny, but instead had to make a split-second decision and made the wrong one.

“The woman said either one bag went in the hold or we weren’t getting on,” he told the Sun . “The rest of the band had gone through so I couldn’t give them any of the clothes. I was told I’d either have to pay a £45 fee to get it on the plane, get the flight the next morning, bin the clothes or wear them.”

Here is all the 19-year-old boyband member wore (via the Sun ).

  • 6 T-shirts
  • 4 jumpers
  • 3 pairs of jeans
  • 2 pairs of sweat pants
  • 2 jackets
  • 2 hats

Perhaps predictably, James McElvar grew overheated during the flight and then became violently ill.

“I knew something was wrong early on as I just couldn’t breath properly. I thought I was having a heart attack,” he told the Mail Online . “It was a nightmare. I passed out twice and was taken off the plane at Glasgow Airport to a waiting ambulance.”

The band later gave fans and update letting them know James would be OK.

For everyone asking James is ok. He is being looked after in hospital now back home safe in Glasgow. He sends you all his love

But McElvar and his bandmates have a good sense of humor, posting on Friday a re-creation of the outfit that sent him to the hospital.

After the scary incident, the boyband member will be happy to know he doesn’t have to collapse on flights anymore. After his incident hit the news, competing airline Ryanair offered to give Rewind two bags checked for free if they book their next flight through the airline.
