Each Wednesday night, the TV viewing audience is gripped by Empire , and people take to social media to express their views about their favorite characters. One of the most favorite characters found on Fox’s Empire is Loretha “Cookie” Lyon, the fashionable matriarch of the American musical family, played with aplomb by Taraji P. Henson.

One of the things being bandied about on Twitter can be found during a search for Cookie’s eyebrows. With very expressive faces being made by Henson, her eyebrows have become the talk of Twitter. Some love Cookie’s eyebrows and some hate Cookie’s eyebrows, but the very highly arched eyebrows that seem to nearly reach Cookie’s hairline at times definitely have folks talking and tweeting.

While the reaction to Cookie’s eyebrows pour into social media each week, could the real reason for the extremely high eyebrows be the dreaded Botox “Spock” eyebrows?

As reported by the Palm Beach Post , a Botox “Spock” eyebrow got its name from Mr. Spock of Star Trek , a character who was known for his uniquely high and oddly shaped eyebrows. Those who get too much Botox in the forehead or have Botox injections in the wrong manner can come away with weird eyebrows that give off a weird expression when one attempts to lift their forehead muscles, such as in a surprised look.

Therefore, it isn’t really the fact that the eyebrows have been arched incorrectly; sometimes it’s a matter of the Botox injections. Since Botox in the forehead relaxes the forehead muscles — but the eyebrow muscles are still free moving — the resulting look on a bad Botox job can make for strangely arched eyebrows when making facial expressions.

The publication reports that incorrect Botox injections can result in over-arched eyebrows. The proper technique to avoid the crazy eyebrow look could involve injecting Botox in higher locations at certain points in the forehead, and not injecting too much Botox all over the forehead.

As noted by the Palm Beach Post , a great Botox injector can leave a person with eyebrows that look normal, no matter what expression is made — and not looking like Dr. Spock.

“Botox weakens or relaxes the muscles. Its effect on facial expression depends on which muscle group it is injected into. For instance, Botox injected into the brow elevators can weaken them so the brow is unable to effectively lift. This can result in a droopy or low-set brow. On the other hand, Botox injected into the brow depressors can relax or weaken these depressors to lessen the downward pull, causing the brows to over-elevate.”

“The key is to balance the forces between the forehead elevators and depressors. Typically, a ‘Spock Brow’ is due to over-treating depressors and/or under-treating elevators in the outer half of the forehead. It can be corrected by placing a small amount of Botox into the elevators in the outer forehead. Your surgeon should be able to explain what can be done to avoid the ‘Spock Brow’ and the corrective measures used if it does occur. As a prerequisite, your surgeon should be familiar with the forehead muscles and their actions.”

As reported by Greatist , weird eyebrows can result from too much Botox, yet more 20-somethings are getting Botox to prevent wrinkles.

“It’s easy to get a funny appearance (think Spock-like eyebrows) if done wrong.”

Meanwhile, the talk about Cookie’s eyebrows continues on Twitter. While a few people think Cookie’s eyebrows are “on fleek” — or really nice — the general consensus is that Cookie’s eyebrows are distracting or odd. The good thing about eyebrows being affected by Botox is that Botox eventually wears off.
