It’s been almost two months since Bobbi Kristina Brown passed away, and her father Bobby Brown has been relatively mum on the subject until recently, when he opened up about losing her during an appearance on an episode of The Real.
People reports that Brown, 46, sat beside his wife Alicia Etheridge as he discussed losing his 22-year-old daughter after she battled for six months with global and irreversible brain damage. Bobbi Kristina Brown was found comatose, face-down in a bath full of cold water on January 31.
“We prayed and hoped for six months… for something better to happen. But when God calls you, he calls you.”
Brown also touched on the subject of the late Whitney Houston, Bobbi Kristina’s superstar R&B singer who passed in 2012 after being found comatose in a bathtub in a Beverly Hills, California, hotel, in a eerily similar fashion as her daughter.
“I’m pretty sure her mother was … had a part with like, ‘Come on, let’s get her up here.’ She was not comfortable by herself, I guess. She just called my daughter with her.”
As Brown laughed while he imitated Houston pulling her daughter up to be with her, Brown’s wife Etheridge quickly added in,
“In the best way … in the welcoming way.”
When asked about a favorite memory of Bobbi Kristina, Brown turned somber and melancholy before replying, “her smile.”
However, despite Brown’s humor, it’s been apparently clear over the course of this year that the “Don’t Be Cruel’ singer has been deeply affected and saddened by the situation. Earlier this year, a source close to the singer indicated that Brown was overcome with grief and guilt, and blamed himself for Bobbi Kristina’s death.
“He told me he should have insisted Krissy get help for her drug addiction and he should have forced Nick Gordon to move out of her townhouse and leave her alone — legally, if necessary. Bobby says he was her father no matter what age she was, and he should have fought her or anyone else who stopped her from saving her from herself.”
Meanwhile, an investigation into what happened the night Bobbi Kristina was found unconscious continues. Although her boyfriend Nick Gordon hasn’t been criminally charged in the case, authorities indicate that he is still one of the primary suspects. Gordon faces a looming civil lawsuit, however, in which he’s accused of wrongful death, emotional abuse, physical abuse, and stealing more than $11,000 from Bobbi Kristina’s bank account.
