The rare supermoon “blood moon” eclipse on Sunday, September 27, is not without controversy. While some have theorized that this blood moon event spells the end of the world, as reported by Business Insider , the Mormon church issued a statement calling for calm among those who believe the blood moon will be the end of all time. Folks have been wiping grocery store shelves clean — however, stargazers who don’t believe the eclipse of the supermoon means the end of time are simply wondering when and where to look for the blood moon.
In terms of finding images of the blood moon on social media, the # bloodmoon hashtag on Instagram and # bloodmoon on the images tab on Twitter should prove to provide spectacular photos, after the event occurs and folks start uploading photos.
As expressed by NASA, folks in America and throughout a lot of the world, should be able to spy the huge blood moon — bright and big — in the sky as part of a total lunar eclipse late Sunday night and into the wee hours of Monday morning. Since this blood moon supermoon won’t happen again (if the world doesn’t end) until 2033, it’s a big event.
Fox reports that the supermoon, or blood moon , should look 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter prior to the total lunar eclipse that should last for about 72 minutes total. Beginning at around 8 p.m. ET in the U.S., sky-gazers can start checking out the sky for the partial lunar eclipse. Then when the shadow of the Earth starts to eclipse the supermoon, some serious blood moon action should occur. By 10 p.m. ET or later, the supermoon should keep up with its “blood moon” namesake by appearing in a red-like color. By midnight or afterward, the supermoon/bloodmoon event should be done — and those who’ve survived can head off to work or the gym the next day with wonderful tales to tell.
Although some parts of the world won’t be able to see the blood moon because of their position on the globe, or cloudy weather, those who can spy the fourth and last in the series of “blood moons” during 2014 and 2015 should see a spectacular lunar trend. Simply going outside and viewing the supermoon/blood moon with the naked eye should be enough to view it. Folks are being advised to dim certain lights, like driveway lights, or to attend blood moon viewing parties at local parks, in order to see it better.
