Blood Money is dead after being shot to death in the streets on the South Side of Chicago, where he was from. Blood Money, whose real name is Mario Hess, was an up and coming rapper with the Glo Gang . A cousin of Chief Keef, Blood Money had recently signed with Interscope Records to begin working on his first album. The Glo Gang rapper had also received a $50,000 signing bonus, which may have played a role in Blood Money’s death.

Police responded to reports of a shooting on Wednesday night around 9:30 pm. When they arrived on the scene, Blood Money had been shot and was later pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. Another cousin and his manager, Renaldo Hess, was going with Blood Money on their way to a recording studio. According to Renaldo, they stopped to talk to some women in a car and were taking their time when an unidentified shooter came up and shot Blood Money dead.

Renaldo Hess also manages Chief Keef and may be involved in another ongoing shooting investigation from last month. Chief Keef was involved in a shooting between two of his friends at a house supposedly rented by Renaldo. That incident occurred on the North Side of Chicago and appears to be unrelated to Blood Money’s death.

Though there is no clear motive in the shooting of Blood Money, manager Renaldo Hess claims that the rapper had been showing off too much money around Chicago. “Whenever you get money people in Chicago start looking. They don’t have money and he was flashing $8,000. Other people looking to stick him up.”

The death of Blood Money points to growing concerns that the media in Chicago is not being truthful about the true amount of violence in the city. Chicago police have been accused of fixing homicide statistics , erasing deaths from the books. Almost a passing line in the story of Blood Money’s death was the fact that another man suffered a gun shot wound to the stomach. Police have not released the identity of the man and it seems unclear what involvement the injured man or manager Renaldo Hess had in the shooting.

At the young age of 30, it seems that because of the allure of fame and fortune Mario Hess, aka Blood Money, is dead.
