In 2012, Walmart hopes to lure in shoppers with deals starting at 8 pm on Thanksgiving day (Black Thursday?), and other retailers are following in Walmart’s footsteps. While we recently reported on a study that showed only 6 percent of shoppers will head out on Thanksgiving day , a new study has found that nearly 25 percent of shoppers will be at stores before 3 am on Black Friday.
Market researcher firm Lab42 surveyed 500 shoppers and found that the average customer plans to visit major retailers including Walmart, Target, Macy’s, and Kohl’s among others. The firm also found that nearly 25 percent of those shoppers would be in stores by 3 am.
In fact, many shoppers say they will be waiting outside of store doors by midnight to ensure they receive a great place in line and the best deals possible for their holiday shopping goals.
The study also revealed that 42 percent of shoppers believe the same type of deals will be available in the days leading up to Christmas, which means they are in no rush to buy presents among the company of millions of other crazed shoppers.
The infographic shown below also shows that many buyers plan to spend part of their Christmas buying budget online via Cyber Monday shopping deals that are often better then in-store sales.
A Google survey also revealed that shoppers plan to spend $900 on presents in 2012, up from $854 in 2011.
