Bethenny Frankel’s mother, Bernadette Birk, reportedly attempted suicide right in front of her, and during The Real Housewives of New York City season 7, the reality star and mother discussed the issue with her stepfather.
In a May 19 sneak peek at tonight’s new episode of The Real Housewives of New York City , Frankel is seen sitting down with John Parisella to talk about her traumatic childhood .
“Of all the three choices of parents that I’ve had, he wins the prize,” Frankel told a friend, prior to her meeting with Parisella.
As fans have heard, Bethenny Frankel’s mother hasn’t spoken to her in over a decade, and according to the reality star, she wouldn’t have it any other way. But why the animosity? According to the sneak peek, it all has to do with a shocking moment, during which Bethenny Frankel’s mother allegedly tried to kill herself as her daughter looked on.
“We had a real nice melting pot of my mother trying to commit suicide in the kitchen in front of me. What mother would ever do that to their child?”
After confronting her stepfather with the revelation, he explained, “You have to understand, she never wanted a child.”
While that certainly doesn’t excuse Bethenny Frankel’s mother from what she allegedly did, that may explain a lot of her issues. Because Frankel was unwanted, it’s no wonder she felt that way. For years, Frankel has spoken publicly about her strained relationship with her parents, and now, slowly but surely, fans are learning more about the reality star’s past, and beginning to understand why she is so against the idea of talking to her mother.
As the Inquisitr previously reported, Bethenny Frankel’s mother, Birk, vowed never to speak to her again at the end of last year, telling Radar Online the reality star had been spreading lies about her for her own benefit.
After the Real Housewives star claimed her childhood was plagued with “eating disorders, alcoholism, mental illness and violence,” Bethenny Frankel’s mother claimed, “Bethenny spread vicious and horrible lies about me simply for publicity. Her ratings were down and they soared!”
“I gave her the benefit of the doubt, and I always left the door open for her, but she destroyed it and now that door is shut forever! She is so vain, and loves herself so much, that if she even got so much as a scratch she would run and get plastic surgery.”
“I will never speak to her again.”
