So the BET Awards 2013 ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday night represents another glittering awards ceremony — and, once again, another Mariah Carey lip-synching controversy. Check out BET’s official video of Carey’s shimmering performance in a skintight dress that I’ve posted down below and decide for yourself if it’s reasonable to ask anyone to hit the high notes in that painted-on costume.
There’s no question that Mariah Carey looked absolutely gorgeous for her BET Awards 2013 performance of “#Beautiful” with Young Jeezy. A Daily Mail report on the controversy acknowledged what they called her “stage presence.”
But apparently there is a huge question of whether or not she was actually singing live — a question that seems to haunt her whenever she performs these days.
Most recently, she was widely criticized for lip-synching during the American Idol finale — although her representative still claims that the performance was live. You can check out that debate, with comments on the video from both sides, right here .
Some fans were watching the Mariah Carey BET Awards 2013 performance specifically to decide whether or not they believed she was actually singing. Some of the immediate gut reaction on Twitter was undeniably harsh.
For instance, wondermann5 had the disgusted comment: “Mariah Carey needs to remember that she is not on RuPaul’s Drag Race. Stop lip-synching for your life.”
Discouraged admirer Queen Slayriah said: “I always get so excited for Mariah Carey’s performance but when the time comes she disappoints me with lack of stage presence and lip-synching.”
