When Zack Snyder announced he wanted to make a Batman/Superman movie to follow Man Of Steel, the speculation immediately began. Warner Bros. is now saying they want a “veteran” actor to play the Dark Knight.

Some names have been floating around, most notably that of Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger), but he was less than enthusiastic about the possibility.

When asked about whether he would be open to play Batman, Hammer simply said he was not a big fan of superheroes. But is that enough to pass up the opportunity of working with Snyder and company?

Hammer and Henry Cavill, who played Superman in Man Of Steel and is slated to reprise the role in the sequel, will work together in the big screen reboot of the sixties TV show, The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

But now that Warner Bros. is being more specific as to what kind of actor they want for Batman, he seems to be out of the age range.

So who could be a potential candidate for the role?

Several names come to mind, but the one that comes to the forefront in any analysis is Richard Armitage (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Spooks, North And South).

Richard Armitage is a true veteran, he may not be well known to American audiences, at least not on a large scale, but he has been part of the industry for a long time.

He has played in several period dramas including North And South for which he became best known, he also played a spy in Spooks or MI-5 as it was known in the US.

Richard recently did a magnificent job portraying the leader of the dwarves, Thorin Oakenshield, in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit.

He is one of those actors that you cannot help but notice, talented, handsome, with an incredibly sexy voice. The 6’2? Brit could do a very credible job as the Dark Knight.

Are you listening Zack Snyder? I venture to say that this is not the last you will hear about Richard Armitage as a possible Batman. The Armitage Army is sure to have an opinion about it.

Do you think Richard Armitage could play Batman? Does he fit the bill as the veteran Warner Bros. is looking for?
