Barnes Noble Inc. on Tuesday unveiled Nook for Web, a new platform that allows users to read full books pn their computers without the need for signing in, owning a Nook account or downloading software.
The program runs on both PC and Mac-supported Web browsers and can be discovered through www.nook.com/NOOKforWeb.
Barnes Noble Digital Products President Jamie Iannone tells Market Watch:
“Nook for Web makes it easier than ever for anyone–from Nook customers to those experiencing digital content for the first time–to access and read books online.”
Readers have until July 26 to try out the service with six free Nook books including The Vow by Kim Carpenter and Perfect Island Getaways by Patricia Schultz.
After the free trial readers have access to more than 2.5 million books, most which sell for less than $10 each.
The program allows for “bookmarking” which means a reader can log off their computer and once they log in the program will sync with the last page they read. If a user reads a page on their mobile device and then they sign into their Nook account on the Web that last page will auto-pull onto the display.
The new piece of technology arrived just four months after Barnes Noble began selling the Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight, a device that has had stronger than expected sales.
According to the bookseller customers can change font sizes and types, read with different page layouts and even rate, review and read recommendations from the website.
