The women of The View have been fighting a treacherous public relations battle this week after Michelle Collins and Joy Behar made critical comments about Miss Colorado’s nursing monologue at Sunday’s Miss America pageant. Although Collins and Behar quickly apologized after the incident, it wasn’t exactly warmly accepted by the offended nursing community.
Even worse for Collins, fat shaming viral video comedian Nicole Arbour said that while she was backstage at The View earlier this week, she heard the women grumbling about having to walk back their jokes. Furthermore, Arbour told Opie and Jim Norton on SiriusXM that Collins trashed nurses in general, going as far as to say it is “not a real profession.”
“Backstage, I heard the girls being like, ‘Oh yeah, our nurse jokes didn’t go over well so we have to apologize because they’re tweeting us too much.’ And I’m like, ‘you all are pu**ies.’ See, I can sit in my jokes and be like, yeah, I made them, I think it’s funny. Whatever. But they go on there and make a fake apology. When the cameras weren’t rolling, [Collins] was like ‘Yeah, that’s not a real profession. They want to be doctors.’ Blah, blah, blah. ‘We apologize to all the nurses, we respect you,’ I’m like, ‘I might be the blonde, but you’re the f***ing idiot.’”
Any statements coming from Arbour should, of course, be taken as hearsay and with a grain of salt. After incurring the wrath of YouTube last week for her fat shaming video, her reputation is not much higher in the public eye. As of now, an ABC official from The View is completely denying that Collins ever made any such statement, or that Collins was even backstage with Nicole Arbour at any time, reports E! News .
“Nicole and Michelle were never backstage at the same time. [Collins] was on the stage from the moment the show started until after the show ended. [Arbour] was brought down to the backstage area after the show started.”
Whether or not Michelle Collins was actually digging herself a deeper grave with the nursing profession backstage, the cast of The View have plenty of reasons to be worried about Nicole Arbour’s statements. At least five major sponsors have dropped their advertising from the program: Party City, Snuggle, McCormick Spice, Johnson & Johnson and Eggland’s Best, reports TMZ .
On Friday’s episode of The View , the group invited a huge group of NYU nursing students on the program in a scramble to end the week on a positive note. On that segment, Michelle Collins admitted that her comments were made out of ignorance and how she now saw “the need to improve how people view and appreciate what [nurses] do.”
