Ashley Morrison says accusations that her television anchor husband choked her are overblown and that a police investigation should uncover the truth of the situation.

WCBS news anchor Rob Morrison faces charges that he choked his wife, CBS MoneyWatch anchor Ashley Morrison. Connecticut officials said that the couple had a “domestic violence incident” in their Darien home and that Rob choked his wife after becoming “increasingly belligerent … during the course of the evening.”

Officers saw red marks on Ashley Morrison’s neck, though she she did not want medical treatment, CNN reported. Police said that Rob made further threats to his wife while he was being processed, allegedly saying that he would return and murder her.

Now, a lawyer for Rob and Ashley Morrison said the couple is working with police on the investigation, which they believe will show that the police account is overblown.

The couple released this statement on Monday through lawyer Robert Svogaard:

“Rob and Ashley Morrison are cooperating fully with the authorities to insure that all of the information necessary to properly evaluate this unfortunate incident is made available. The Morrisons are confident that a full review of this matter will show that the allegations have been greatly exaggerated.”

On Tuesday, a judge ordered Rob Morrison to leave the house the he his wife share with their 7-year-old daughter. The judge also told Rob to stay at least 100 yards away from Ashley Morrison at all times, the New York Daily News reported.

At the hearing, it was revealed that police had been called to the Morrison home eight times between 2003 and 2009. In one incident in 2009, the couple fought after Rob returned home drunk from a bar and began watching pornography on his computer. He also reiterated statements Ashley Morrison made that the allegations were overblown, telling reporters, “I love my wife more than anything.”
