Arsene Wenger has insisted that he will see out the remainder of his Arsenal contract, which runs until 2014.
The Frenchman has come under fire recently for failing to deliver a trophy to the north London club in what will be eight seasons.
The Gunners are currently 24 points behind Manchester United at the top of the Premier League table and trail Chelsea in the race for the last Champions League spot.
Arsenal crashed out of the FA Cup in the fifth round against Championship side Blackburn and was shocked in the Capital One Cup by League Two outfit Bradford City on penalties.
Arsenal’s last remaining hope of winning some silverware was dashed when it was eliminated from the Champions League on away goals despite a valiant 2-0 triumph over Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
Wenger was proud of his team’s showing against the Germans but admitted it was a bitter pill to swallow.
“We went close and I am very proud of the performance but as well I am very disappointed for everyone who follows Arsenal,” he said. “The regret I have is that there is potential in the team and we are, of course, out of the competition.”
Arsene Wenger has become a divisive figure at the club, as a growing faction of Arsenal supporters believe it is time to find a new manager, while others have stood steadfastly by his side.
Critics, pundits and fans alike have been calling for his head, but Wenger has revealed his desire to remain with the Gunners until his deal runs out.
“I still have the desire,” he stated. “I am under contract until 2014 and I am used to fulfilling my contracts.”
Arsene Wenger will have his work cut out for him in the last few months of the season as Arsenal are in real danger of missing out on fourth place and the coveted Champions League spot that comes with it.
