Apple finally unveiled the iPad Pro today in San Francisco. Yahoo Tech reveals the news .

“Apple’s newest iPad has officially landed, and boy is it HUGE. Unveiled at Apple’s iPhone event on Wednesday, the iPad Pro is a 12.9-inch behemoth of an iPad geared primarily toward business professionals.”

Yahoo Tech claims the iPad Pro comes with a stylus, but it appears — based on several other sources — that the Apple Pencil will cost an extra $99. The iPad Pro has a 2,732 x 2,048 pixel resolution screen that measures 12.9 inches. Not everybody is thrilled. Though media reports on the device are mostly positive, Twitter is lit with disappointment.

The fact that Microsoft will be releasing the Surface Pro 4, which runs a desktop operating system (Windows 10), around the same time should be of concern to Apple. PC World finds the iPad Pro hardware to be excellent, but can’t help comparing it to Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3 .

“For now, the iPad Pro’s hardware specs are arguably a tad superior to the Surface Pro 3’s. But while Apple may claim to have ‘reinvented’ the idea of a productivity tablet with the iPad Pro, Surface owners know where Apple found its biggest ideas.”

The article ends with the thought that they expect Microsoft to one-up Apple yet again with the Surface Pro 4. However, Tech Times believes it’s too early to tell what tablet will be better.

“While one may seem better than the other on paper, at least at this point, it’s too early to tell which one will ultimately be the best choice. Neither the Surface Pro 4 nor the iPad Pro are official just yet.”

Tech Times summarizes that both Microsoft and Apple want to raise the bar for what their tablets can offer. That can only be good for the consumer. With dedicated tablet devices losing sales, Microsoft was able to catch the market with a device that can be used well both as a tablet and laptop.

Apple could lose out with the iPad Pro, especially since it runs iOS instead of OS X. However, perhaps Apple realizes what they are doing. If the iPad Pro becomes a huge success, it wouldn’t be the first time the Cupertino company has proven tech analysts and critics wrong.
