The Apple iCloud data center in North Carolina began suffering from an outage on Wednesday afternoon. Various Apple customers began reporting the issue which caused problems for their iCloud and iMessage services.

As the issue began to receive media attention commenting parties quickly chimed in with various headaches being caused by the outage.

According to a MacRumors report:

“Users are also reporting problems with Apple’s developer portal and iTunes Store access, although pieces of Apple’s online services do appear to be coming back online. We’re even hearing that Apple may have experienced Internet issues for its own employees at its Cupertino headquarters.”

Many Apple users now rely on cloud services to remotely store email, pictures and other documents which can be accessed from their mobile devices and computers. In some cases critical work files and personal documents are saved on the remote network.

One user wrote:

“Our phones are going off the hook here at work because people can’t access their iCloud mail. Wheeeeee!”

In another complaint a Twitter user pointed out that the iCloud outage seemed more like a Research in Motion type issue than an Apple type problem:

So Apple’s iCloud is experiencing a BlackBerry like outage

It turns out that even Apple’s third-party app developers are at a loss and potential work standstill over the outage:

wow, Apple’s developer site is down, iCloud is down, and their store just timed out on me. I wonder what’s going on?
