Angelina Jolie, actress, director, mother, philanthropist, and special envoy for the United Nation High Commission For Refugees has been voted the most admired woman in the world, according to the Daily Mail .
In a poll of over 25,000 people across the globe, the 39-year-old actress and mother-of-six was chosen as the most admirable lady of them all. According to the YouGov poll, she beat the likes of Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai , Hillary Clinton, Queen Elizabeth, and Dame Judi Dench.
According to the Huffington Post , the poll was conducted across 23 countries. Angelina Jolie topped the worldwide poll whilst 17-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, who was shot by the Taliban and is an advocate for education and women’s rights, came in second place. Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ranked in third place.
Jolie, who built a career as one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, has recently made a name promoting humanitarian causes, including serving as a Special Envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Oscar winner Angelina Jolie has starred in such films as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider , Mr. & Mrs. Smith , and, more recently, Maleficent .
But it’s not just her acting skills that helped define Angelina Jolie as one of the most admirable women in the world. Jolie is also hugely involved in international charity projects, especially those involving refugees. Angelina Jolie began lobbying for humanitarian interests in the U.S. and has successfully pushed for legislation to aid child immigrants and other vulnerable children in both the U.S. and developing nations.
Whilst Angelina Jolie topped the worldwide poll, Queen Elizabeth was ranked as the most admired woman in a separate poll conducted solely in the UK. The Queen was followed closely by Dame Judi Dench and, once again, Yousafzai.
Whilst Jolie topped the poll, it is likely that Hillary Clinton will be encouraged by the third place showing if, as reported, she decides to make a serious run for the U.S. presidency in 2016.
Jolie polled ahead of the most admired man, Bill Gates. Since retiring as chairman of Microsoft, Gates has donated billions of dollars of his personal wealth to causes like expanding educational opportunity and eliminating extreme poverty around the world, mostly through a foundation he founded with his wife, Melinda Gates.
Barack Obama polled second amongst men whilst Chinese President Xi Jinping is close behind in third place. Pope Francis, the Dalai Lama, and Stephen Hawking placed amongst the top 10 men.
Michelle Obama, Celine Dion, and Julia Roberts all placed in the top 10 behind Angelina Jolie.
