Android KitKat is being promoted in some inventive, and delicious ways. Google is working with Nestle and Hershey to create Android-themed chocolate bars. The chocolates will be available worldwide, and will include contest entries.

Android 4.4 is the ninth version of the operating system. The previous eight versions were also named after desserts — in alphabetical order.

Beginning with Cupcake, Google followed with Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean.

Following the pattern, the newest version will start with a “K.” Rumors circulated for months, speculating that Google would call Android 4.4 “Key Lime Pie.”

As reported by The Verge , director of Android partnerships, John Lagerling, pointed out that “very people actually know the taste of a key lime pie.”

Lagerling explains that Kit Kat bars are a favorite among his colleagues. Someone eventually suggested KitKat for the Android 4.4 codename. Google discussed the possibility with Nestle, and a deal was reached within 24 hours.

As reported by ABC News , on Tuesday, Google announced Android KitKat. In addition to the announcement, Nestle launched the KitKat 4.4 web page, and Google erected a large “chocolate” Android on their front lawn.

Nestle will produce around 50 million Android themed Kit Kat bars. The packages will include information for entering a contest on the Android website. Prizes will include Google Nexus 7 tablets, Google Play store credits, and Android-shaped Kit Kat bars.

On their website , Nestle announced a commitment to connect with their customers through online content. In addition to the partnership with Google, Nestle acquired Petfinder earlier this year.

Petfinder is a website that connects potential pet owners with adoption agencies and shelters.

Android KitKat is a highly anticipated upgrade that will certainly help Google remain competitive in the smartphone market.
