The VLC media player will soon be arriving for Android powered mobile handsets.
The open source video player, a favorite among many tech geeks, is expected to arrive by early 2011, possibly just a few weeks into the New Year.
The iPhone version of the player was released in October to rave reviews thanks in large part to the large number of file support types offered for the player and the small file size of the program.
The Google version would have released sooner but was delayed due to Android outputting libraries using Java, a problem that was rectified this month with the Android NDK package.
Different hardware and software setups on various Android devices are still causing delays for some Smartphones, so some users may end up seeing the app available before others.
