Streaming your video gaming sessions to the world has become a lucrative past time for PC gamers. Playstation 4 and Xbox One owners joined in on the action with built in Twitch and UStream functionality. iOS received its first iOS streaming game with Asphalt 8 , and now Android users will be able to use an app called Shou.tv to stream anything on their screen, live to the internet.
The amount of money possible in live streaming is evident in the purchase of Twitch for $1 Billion which The Inquisitr reported on previously. While Twitch centers around PC and console gaming, it has had limited integration with iOS and virtually none with Android. That is something Shou.tv is hoping to change.
The new Android app Shou.tv is a free streamer that boasts unlimited time and size of streams with no ads or watermark for Android 5.0 Lollipop support, and ROOT 4.0 Android owners. The app is already available on iOS. While it does not stream to the more robust Twitch.tv or UStream services, it does stream to its own web site at, obviously enough, Shou.tv .
Mobile livestreaming has been a smaller niche than console or PC game streaming, but as games become more complex and graphically advanced, the amount of mobile stream demand has been ticking up. Audiences for games such as Clash of Clans , Minecraft Pocket, and Vain Glory are large and made up of dedicated players as VentureBeat reports .
One of the major drawbacks to the software is that it is only compatible with Android 5.0 Lollipop, which is only on a few of the latest Android-based smart phones such as the Nexus 6, Moto G and HTC One M8. Owners of phones running the previous generation of Android 4.0 will have to root their phone or tablet. Rooting is a process that unlocks the phone from the carrier’s modified version of Android, but requires the user to be comfortable with their computer and phone as it is an involved process that can potentially “brick” your phone.
The obvious advantage of the app from other video apps such as Kamcord and Overplay is that it is an actual live streaming app which essentially broadcasts whatever is on your screen. Kamcord and Overplay is based around recording videos of your screen and sharing them later instead of providing a live stream.
