A nationwide Amber Alert was announced on Friday for 18-month-old Carter Willis Johnson of Dekalb County, GA. Carter is described as three feet tall and weighing about 40 pounds with black curly hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, grey pants, jean jacket, and grey shoes.

According to police, Johnson could be in “extreme danger” after a physical altercation between his mom and dad left his mom in bad shape which led to the Amber Alert.

“We found out that there has been an alleged physical altercation that left the mother of this child pretty damaged. She is in fear for her child’s safety because of this alleged altercation,” Callaway said.

An emergency hearing was held in a Fulton County courtroom on Friday where a judge issued the Amber Alert.

Police have received what they believe to be a solid tip that Johnson and his father, 31-year-old Willis Johnson, are in Miami.

“He was going to visit a cousin, I believe, and the cousin said, ‘Hey there’s an alert about you and your son,’ and the father picked the son up and immediately left the dwelling,” said Officer Gene Callaway with the Doraville Police Department.

Willis is described as being five feet, 10 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds with brown eyes and black curly hair.

Johnson was supposed to return Carter to his mother on April 1 at a custody exchange at the police station, but that exchange never took place.

“That exchange did not happen, an Amber Alert was attempted at that point, but the GBI though there was no danger to the child,” said Callaway.

WSB-TV 2 in Atlanta is reporting that the vehicle information in the Amber Alert was outdated as the police found the original car at a relative’s home in Atlanta. Unfortunately, the relatives refused to talk to the news station about the possible whereabouts of Willis or Carter.

New information leads police to believe that Johnson may be driving a brown Range Rover Land Rover with a paper tag.

Police indicated that their tip said that Carter had not been injured, but they are ready for Johnson to end this situation without incident.

“Hand the child over. Let’s put an end to this, let’s handle this in the court system and be done with this and make sure the child is safe,” Callaway said.

Investigators are asking people to call the Doraville Police Department at 770.455.1000 if you see the vehicle, child, or father, or if you have any information on the case.
