Almost Human has cast five-time Emmy winner John Larroquette for a recurring role.

Larroquette will play Nigel , “a genius roboticist who is sympathetic, highly intelligent and a bit broken” on Fox’s new sci-fi drama.

Almost Human stars Michael Ealy as Dorian, a lifelike android capable of emotions, and Karl Urban as LAPD Detective John Kennex. The series is executive produced by JJ Abrams, JH Wyman, and Bryan Burk.

“What they’re dealing with in [ Almost Human ] is much more a cop show that you might feel is familiar, with a wrench thrown into that, with the huge adjustment being that the cases themselves aren’t what you’ve seen before,” Abrams said.

Almost Human was originally scheduled to debut Monday, November 4, but Fox postponed the premiere until Sunday, November 17 , giving the series a huge lead-in from NFL on Fox . The second part of the premiere will air following night in its regular 8 pm Monday time slot, which will lead into the network’s freshman breakout hit, Sleepy Hollow .

John Larroquette is best known for his role as Dan Fielding on Night Court , for which he won four consecutive Emmy Awards, a record at the time. Larroquette also starred in the Hallmark Channel series McBride , NBC’s The West Wing , and ABC’s Boston Legal , a spinoff of David E. Kelley’s The Practice .

Larroquette made his Broadway debut in the 2011 revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying as J.B. Biggley. He won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical, as well as the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical. The 65-year-old New Orleans native also appeared in a revival of Gore Vidal’s The Best Man , which also starred James Earl Jones, Angela Lansbury, Candice Bergen, Mark Blum, Eric McCormack, and Jefferson Mays.
