Alligator At School’s Doorstep: 7-Foot Gator Captured At Texas Junior High School

Having an alligator greet you at the doorstep isn’t exactly what you expect going into a school facility, but that’s exactly what happened Wednesday morning in Texas. ABC News Yahoo! reports that a 7-foot-long gator was found on the doorstep of a junior high school near Houston.

The alligator was discovered by an employee at Beck Junior High School in Katy, Texas around 7:30 am. The reptile made itself comfortable at the school’s front doors.

Police were notified and deputies contacted a fellow officer who’s experienced at handling these situations.

Bob Haenel of the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office says:

“One of our deputies is kind of a veteran at doing this type of thing. After several attempts of trying to rope the alligator, he managed to put a towel over the gator’s head to calm him down and then roped him.”

Haenel thinks the alligator came from a bayou close by. The gator was moved to a more “natural habitat,” he adds.

The FBCSO had a lot of fun with the alligator incident.

In one tweet, they wrote:

“Somebody thinks today is the first day of school! At@katyisd BeckJHS”

Katy Independent School District tweeted this statement, according to Click 2 Houston :

“At approximately 7:20 a.m., staff at Beck Junior High discovered an alligator near the entrance of the building. Authorities were immediately contacted, and Animal Control is currently in route to remove the alligator. Schools are not in session and children will begin attending Katy ISD schools on August 25.”

Student Josh Murrell tells ABC 13 Eyewitness News :

“It’s pretty funny, I think. An alligator walking all the way from the bayou over there. I don’t know what it was doing staying here instead of over there.”

Former student Sumeet Argawar lives near Beck Junior Middle School, telling the news source:

“You see the sign sometimes and you’re like, ‘Is there really an alligator? But apparently there is.”

The alligator was lassoed a few times before he was fully roped in by the deputy. At first, he didn’t want anything to do with the commotion. He eventually moved to an area around the school where the authorities could better capture him.

It was definitely a dramatic morning in the suburb for everyone!

Besides the alligator being found at the school, The Inquisitr has reported on similar situations. There was an incident in which a crocodile entered a Walmart store last year.
