All four Battlefield 3 classes detailed

The Battlefield Blog updated a few days ago with some fresh details on Battlefield 3 ‘s four multiplayer classes: Assault, Engineer, Support and Recon. And yes, that means that the Medic is out.

Instead of having a separate Medic class, abilities such as med packs and defibrillators will be passed onto the Assault class. That doesn’t mean that the class’ assault power will be toned down, though – Assault will remain the standard “run and gun” class.

The Engineer, on the other hand, remains largely unchanged from the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 incarnation. The engineer will repair the team’s vehicles and destroy the other team’s vehicles with RPG fire.

The support class is perhaps the most interesting of the bunch. The support class will sport an LMG, and he’ll have the ability to lay down a bipod on the ground or on other various surfaces, making his shots significantly more accurate which, in turn, makes the class very effective at laying down suppressive fire.

Speaking of suppressive fire, DICE is introducing an interesting new mechanic with Battlefield 3 . When you lay down suppressive fire at close vicinity to enemy infantry, the enemy’s screen will blur and his accuracy will be noticeably impacted. This makes laying down suppressive fire to hold positions significantly more effective and, as a fan of all games of the military variety, I could not be more stoked about it.

Last but not least is the Recon class, otherwise known as the sniper. Just like the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 version, the Recon class will be able to spot enemies for the team and take out enemies from a (ideally) safe distance. To mix things up a bit, however, DICE will be introducing several Recon-exclusive gadgets, but they weren’t willing to share any more details on that at the moment.

Battlefield 3 ships out on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC this October 25.
