Alien Life On Mars? Curiosity Rover’s Pictures Of Alleged UFO Spark Debate

The possibility of alien life on Mars has the internet abuzz after the pictures that the Curiosity rover beamed back to Earth that many believe show signs of life forms on the red planet.

From time to time, people looking for signs of alien life will find something in one of the pictures taken by the Mars robot that to them looks like a sign of extraterrestrials. This week those conspiracy theorists found what appeared to be a crashed UFO, one that the U.K.’s Express noted looked a lot like the Imperial Star Destroyer or X-wing from the Star Wars movies.

The picture caught the eye of Scott C Waring, editor of UFO Sightings Daily , who posted about it on his website.

“I found this anomaly in the latest Curiosity Rover photo. The black object looks like a crashed UFO. The craft is only about 2.5-3 meters across, so it probably only held a few passengers. Since many of the figures we found on Mars are about 5-8 cm tall, then we can conclude that his ship could carry about 20-40 passengers.

“There is only one photo of the ship. The rover usually takes many of each area, but not this one. Perhaps tomorrow it will take more.”

This week CNN took on the trend of people finding what they believe is alien life on Mars through pictures from the Curiosity rover. Experts say the nature of the camera equipment sent to the red planet makes it easy for people to misinterpret what they’re seeing.

“We have color HD cameras on this rover that far exceed anything ever sent to the planet before, and yet in order to find these things that kind of trick your brain into thinking it’s a mermaid or whatever, you do have to zoom in where it’s kind of a fuzzy shadow at that point,” Ashwin Vasavada, a scientist who works on the Mars rover project, told CNN.

But NASA is quite concerned about life on Mars — although for now, they’re focusing on the human kind. This week marked the beginning of a year-long experience to simulate life on Mars, with a team of six people shutting themselves inside a small dome on a dormant volcano in Hawaii.

The idea is to see if humans can survive life on Mars , an experiment that could eventually lead to colonization of the red planet. This, in turn, could also help one day answer the question if there is alien life on Mars.
