The first, official trailer for Alice Through the Looking Glass was released online Thursday — and it does not disappoint.

After a series of teasers stimulated their appetites, many fans and critics were likely excited to see the full-length trailer — especially since it featured quite few favored faces from the first film.

Along with seeing glimpses of the Cheshire Cat within the impressive visual effects, his voice (provided by actor Stephen Fry) also resonated throughout the nearly two-minute clip as a narrator.

“When the day becomes the night, and the sky becomes the sea. When the clock strikes heavy, and there’s no time for tea. And in our darkest hour, before my final rhyme, she will come back home to Wonderland and turn back the hands of Time.”

Alice Through the Looking Glass focuses on Alice returning to Wonderland after a very long time away in order to achieve the impossible to save a close friend from the first movie — The Mad Hatter.

In order to achieve that goal, though, she has to literally turn back the hands of time — which puts her face-to-face against the interesting yet awkward character Time (played by Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen).

According to Cinema Blend , Cohen’s character is part human and part clock. Alice is repeatedly warned against fighting against Time — especially in her effort to reverse it in order to save the Mad Hatter.

However, she refuses to heed those warnings and decides to go against the grain by accepting the challenge. Doing so presents a whole new list of challenges and obstacles for her to overcome — a journey that is sure to become an emotional roller-coaster of epic proportions for fans, critics, and moviegoers alike.

This follow-up sequel to the 2010 Tim Burton-directed film Alice in Wonderland reunites Cohen with his Les Miserables co-star Helena Bonham Carter, who is reprising her role as the Red Queen.

Unlike the first film, Alice Through the Looking Glass was directed by The Muppets director James Bobin instead of Tim Burton. However, Burton still played a key role behind the scenes of the film as one of the producers.

So excited by the Alice Through The Looking Glass trailer!! ‘Bout time we watched the first one again! #aliceinwonderland — Siân Cabble (@Shargen15) November 5, 2015

While promoting Muppets Most Wanted in an interview with Collider last year, director James Bobin was very careful not to give too much away about the Alice in Wonderland sequel.

However, he did share quite a few points about his overall vision and excitement for the film — including the addition of 3-D effects.

“My secret passion is history. My films have a lot of historical context… So the idea of doing a movie that is not only historical but also fantastical, like a fantasy world, I couldn’t pass it up … Alice is in a Victorian fantasy land, and nowhere suits 3D better than that. There’s no limits to new ideas and what you can do, but also at the same time you have this great palette of Victoriana to use to create a fantastical world… For me, it’s an opportunity to try and recreate the world I love from the past in this really interesting way.”

Alice Through the Looking Glass is scheduled to open in theaters on May 27, 2016, but there will likely be at least a few more trailers released in the months leading up to the big day.
