Al Sharpton’s Trayvon Martin advocacy has not abated in the days since a stunning “not guilty” verdict was handed down in Florida Saturday night, and the controversial civil rights leader has vowed to make George Zimmerman the target of a civil lawsuit.

Al Sharpton appeared tis morning on the Tom Joyner Morning Show to discuss George Zimmerman , Trayvon Martin, and the overall reaction to the verdict in Seminole County making the teen’s admitted shooter a free man — who, it was revealed, will receive the gun he shot Martin with back when it is released from evidence.

Sharpton addressed the idea of a civil suit against Zimmerman, saying that the fight for justice for Trayvon Martin is far from over — he began :

“When they’re telling you today, ‘I don’t know if they’re going to get a civil rights trial:’ We will. And we will get a civil trial.’

Sharpton continued, urging Trayvon supporters to stay focused despite the verdict:

What we’ve watched the last several weeks was not the system correcting itself, it was the people correcting the system. Now we’ve got to finish the job.

The morning after Trayvon Martin protests spread across the US, Sharpton indicated demonstrations are planned for many cities, and that the momentum after the case should be sustained in the coming weeks and days:

It’s not over. And we are going to make sure it’s not over, that’s why we’re calling people to … organize in your city. I don’t care if it’s 20 people, we want to show the nation that over 100 cities a week later is still demanding justice. We’re not having a fit, we’re having a movement.

Al Sharpton also appeared on Today to discuss vigils planned for this weekend, with Trayvon Martin protests in 100 cities.
