AJ McCarron wasn’t too happy about falling all the way to the fifth round, taking out his frustrations on Twitter.

The Alabama quarterback was picked by the Cincinnati Bengals to compete for the backup position behind Andy Dalton. McCarron was diplomatic after being picked, saying he is ready do whatever the team needs of him.

“I’m confident in myself, but at the same time I know Andy (Dalton) is the QB up there. And I respect that,” McCarron said. “All I want to do is go in and help us in whatever way I can. If that means me holding the clipboard for a couple of years and giving Andy reports during the week, or watching film with him and helping him out in any way I can. I’m just ready to do it. I’m excited about this opportunity, and I just can’t wait to get up there and get to work.”

But AJ McCarron was telling a different story before he finally got picked. In a now-deleted tweet, McCarron said “y’all thought I played with a chip on my shoulder, JUST WAIT”

McCarron clearly thought he would go much higher in the draft. In pre-draft interviews, he had slotted himself as a late first-round or early second-round pick.

“Even the first pick this year, no one knows what’s going to happen,” McCarron told Edholm. “I might think I am going to be a first- or second-round pick, but no one player is sure on any spot. It all depends on what the Texans do on the first pick of the draft, and whatever they do could end up changing the whole draft.”

But reports said that McCarron rubbed team executives the wrong way during interviews, and also fell in standing by skipping the Senior Bowl .

If AJ McCarron does have a chip on his shoulder for falling to the fifth round, he might only have himself to blame.
